What happens when you exercise is it causes your body to release chemicals which ease the stress and reduce further build up of it. It also relaxes the built up body tension and helps you sleep which of course helps you cope better with whatever is causing the stress
There is quite a complex series of chemical processes and responses which I only vaguely understand as a layman. But I sure know it works.
