Researchers are finding more and more links between stress and illness. Whether it comes from a sudden trauma like the death of a family member, from prolonged emotional strain caused by a divorce, or simply from the day-to-day hassles associated with work, commuting, family and paying the bills, stress can weaken the immune system, cause headaches, irritability, high blood pressure, sleeping disorders and may even play a factor in cancer and heart disease. Experts estimate that from 75 to 90 percent of doctor’s visits are for stress-related illnesses. The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) estimates that stress costs American businesses approximately 0 billion annually.

Stress is a problem that, if not addressed, can take a big chunk from your pocketbook, if not years off your life. The world isn’t going to get any easier to live in, so what can you do to alleviate its ill-effects?

Stressed Out? Try Barbeque Therapy!

It’s difficult to be stressed out when you’re sitting on your back porch at midnight in the summertime, with a good book, cold drink and a halo of hickory barbeque smoke swirling around your head. The meat was sizzling and the smoke, apart from shooing the mosquitoes away, was heavenly with the aroma of meat, spices and herbs. I couldn’t have asked for better therapy to cure the effects of a stressful week.

â??Many holistic health practitioners agree that not just what we smell, but also what we taste, touch, hear and see can influence how we feelâ??and maybe even bring us serenity.â? This is according to June D. Bell in her article for the online Massage Envy Magazine. Massage therapy likewise engages the senses to relieve stress in Valrico, Riverview, Bloomingdale and Brandon 33511.

Bell says the engagement of the senses is such a powerful method of controlling stress that it is used to relive the chronic pain of patients with serious medical conditions. In fact, she cites how Jnani Chapman, a clinical specialist of the Osher Center for Integrative Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco, has been teaching patients how to use their senses to achieve moments of serenity.

In an attempt to get relief naturally, many individuals are turning to massage therapy bodywork to relieve the stresses of life. That is likely the main reason why people seek the help of a massage therapist. Stress relief massage helps bring the body into harmony. When the body stresses, the brain signals for the release of hormones designed to cope with stressors. That revs the body’s engine into overdrive. After a time, the body cannot come down from that stress level. In the long run, that level of stressing causes long-term health issues. It makes total sense to bring stress down naturally when possible.

Massage therapy bodywork involves working muscles in such a way that muscle tension reduces. The brain and body begins to relax. Some therapies work the upper muscles while others work deeper. Just about any form of massage therapy will have positive affects however. Stress relief massage helps bring stress under control and gives the client more relaxation in a few minutes than they have in an entire week without massage. For the busy person, even a 15-minute chair massage will give them much relief.
